Link-Belt crawlers complete $7 million bridge work

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet awarded a $7.1 million contract to Kay & Kay Contracting LLC of London, Kentucky, for a bridge rehabilitation project on Fishing Creek Bridge (KY 80) in western Pulaski County. Three Link-Belt machines, a 348 HYLAB 5 lattice crawler and two TCC-800 telecrawlers, worked to replace the bridge deck and repair bridge beams.

A TCC-800 and the 348 HYLAB 5, equipped with 205 feet of main boom, were located roughly 80 feet below the existing bridge deck on barges in the underlying Lake Cumberland, and the other TCC-800 worked from above on the bridge deck. Each crane was vital to the operation, lifting beams and ensuring the project ran both smoothly and efficiently.

The TCC-800 on the bridge deck was especially critical to the success of the ongoing construction cycle, with its track width fitting well within the 14-foot margins of the existing bridge deck profile. The TCC’s impressive maneuverability and capacity at radius allowed it to operate easily despite the limited job site, keeping work moving and on schedule.

Supported by the 348 HYLAB 5 and the second TCC-800, the Link-Belt advantage is easy to see.
