Link-Belt introduces a new luffing attachment for the LS-278H lattice boom crawler craneLexington, Kentucky (Oct. 2, 2000) — Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company introduced the eagerly anticipated 50-ton (45.36 mt) luffing attachment for the LS-278H lattice boom crawler crane at the CraneFest 2000 show at the company’s manufacturing facility. This new attachment is the longest luffing attachment in its class. The new attachment features a basic luffing boom and jib combination of 105-ft., plus 95-ft. (32.0 + 28.96 m) and a maximum luffing boom and jib of 200-ft., plus 200-ft. (60.96 + 60.96 m). Combined with the 30-ft. (9.14 m) fixed jib, the new luffing attachment’s maximum tip height is an outstanding 431-ft. (133.37 m). Its working radius is 327-ft. (99.97m). The attachment can either be assembled “straight out” or “piggy-back,” lift-off from the ground is unassisted, and utilizes fixed boom backstops located on the jib base. The new attachment is incredibly convenient and simple to assemble and transport because the luffing top, fan post assembly and jib base ship as one load. “The reaction for this attachment is very positive. Customers tell us it’s what they’ve been looking for in a luffer. Shipments will begin February 2001. In fact, we have sold several units already, many who have already taken delivery on the main unit,” says Pat Collins, senior product manager, lattice boom cranes. The luffing boom is comprised of the conventional boom (66-in. x 66-in.) of the LS-278H. The luffing jib is the conventional boom extensions (61-in. x 61-in.) of the LS-218H II. The 30-ft. fixed jib (32-in. x 24-in.) is also from the LS-278H. An optional third drum is mounted in the boom base section and offers 29,090 lbs. (13 195 kg) of maximum pull and 374 ft. (114 m) per minute.
