New 25-ton luffing attachment announced for LS-218H II crawler crane

LAS VEGAS (March 2002) — Link-Belt introduced a new 25-ton (22.7 mt) capacity luffing attachment for the LS-218H II, 110-ton (100 mt) HYLAB crawler crane at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG exposition in Las Vegas. This newly designed attachment greatly enhances the versatility of the very successful LS-218H II, that was introduced in 2000.

“Adding a luffing attachment to this machine makes it one of the most versatile cranes in North America,” says Pat Collins, senior product manager, lattice cranes. “The LS-218H II comes out on top in almost every single critical performance specification — lift chart, line pull, wire rope, attachment flexibility and transportability. Now it has the most economical and easy to erect luffing attachment ever built.”

The luffing attachment features a basic attachment of 80’ (24.38 m) of luffing boom and 50’ (15.24 m) luffing jib. The maximum combination of luffing boom and jib is 140’ plus 140’ (42.67 + 42.67 m) providing 283’ (86.26 m) of maximum tip height and a maximum working radius of 208’ (63.4 m).

The LS-218H II luffing attachment also offers unique combinations for those especially challenging jobs. For example, it can accommodate 150’ (45.72 m) of luffing boom with jib combinations of 80’ (24.38 m), 90’ (27.43 m) or 100’ (30.5 m) for lifts requiring extra “up and over.”

The attachment lubrication points are sealed which requires minimal maintenance when the luffer is out of reach for extended periods of time.

Luffing boom components have shipping configurations provided that allows for a more compact package. The luffing boom top section, fan-post assembly, and luffing jib base section with backstop attached can be shipped as a unit. They may also be separated into modular assemblies for shipping in more compact packages. These features make the fan-post style easy to assemble on the job site. The complete luffing jib and fan post assembly ships in just two loads.
