Industry leading LS-138 and LS-218 cranes upgraded to HYLAB 5 series

Link-Belt has upgraded the industry leading LS-138H II and LS-218H II crawler cranes and retagged them the 138 HYLAB 5 and 218 HYLAB 5, respectively. Both of these job proven cranes will share H5 improvements such as: larger operator’s cab, new Tier II-compliant engines, new SML-10 load moment system and remote oil coolers.

One of the improvements to the previous LS-138H II, which enjoys a reputation as the most popular North American crawler crane in the 80-ton crane range, is a wider, roomier cab. The cab width has grown by 6 inches while the machine has retained its great transportability capabilities. The wider cab allows room for new single axis controllers with adjustable left-hand swing control and a sliding right hand console. The 218 H5, a 110 ton (99.80 mt) rig, also gets the new bigger roomier cab.

Both cranes will feature the new SML-10 load moment system which incorporates the very latest Sumitomo/Link-Belt design, displaying load-on-hook, as well as maximum allowable load-on-hook, boom length, boom angle, tip height, and audible warning. In addition, the SML-10 features a function kick out for both overload and anti-two block occurrences. This load moment system utilizes load sensing in the boom hoist dead end to feed data to the load limiter computer.

New power on the 138 H5 is the Tier II-compliant Mitsubishi 6016-TLE2A power plant while the 218 H5 gets the Mitsubishi 6D24-TLAH. Both rigs have earned the reputation for having the most reliable hydraulic system on any lattice crane today. And to even further enhance and extend the bulletproof performance, a new remote-mounted hydraulic oil cooler has been mounted on the right side of the house of both rigs. A hydraulic thermostatically controlled fan motor drives this cooler.

While the aesthetics have also been slightly updated, the 138 H5 and 218 H5 carry the same solid attachment and lift capacities as previous models.
