Link-Belt to exhibit telescopic terrain crane at Bauma

Lexington, KY (March 21, 2007) – Link-Belt Construction Equipment Co., announced plans to exhibit a telescopic terrain crane at Bauma in Munich, on April 23-29. The Link-Belt exhibit will focus on the North American market-leading HTT-8690, 81.6-mt (90-ton) telescopic terrain crane that features job proven rear-steer capability for operating in tight, congested areas for optimum crane maneuverability, both on and off the job. Link-Belt will share exhibit space 1202/4 with its sister company, Hitachi Sumitomo.

The HTT-8690 Telescopic Terrain crane is a study in power, maneuverability, and simplicity. Following are some of the reasons why this model dominates its class in the North American market. More than just roadability, this crane offers maneuverability. Steerable rear axles in conjunction with super single tires make the HTT agile in tight places. Four steering modes—independent front, independent rear, combination, and crab—allow this crane to move in and out of any jobsite constraint. The HTT’s turning radius is less than 9 m (29 ft) at the edge of the tire. And with the transverse differential locks, traction in difficult terrain is easy.

The 8690 features Link-Belt’s innovative five-section, 42.7-m (140-ft) formed boom. It has a patented locking and latching system that is unmatched in serviceability, operational simplicity, and lift capacity. And there is no deduct in the capacity chart when telescoping a load. Each boom section extends independently using one double-acting, single-stage hydraulic cylinder with integrated holding valves. The boom requires no greasing because Teflon wear pucks self-lubricate the boom sections.

Maximum tip height is 72.2 m (237 ft) with two 4.9-m (16-ft) lattice inserts between the boom head and the optional 10.7–17.7-m (35–58-ft), bi-folding lattice. All attachment combinations have offset positions of 2, 15, 30, and 45 degrees.

The standard modular-style counterweight package is 5 216 kg (11 500 lbs). Optional 12 020-kg (26 500-lb), 14 742-kg (32 500-lb), and 17 917-kg (39 500-lb) packages further extend the crane’s lift performance. The operator can raise and lower the counterweights from the comfort of the cab. Maximum lifting capacity is 81 648 kg (180 000 lbs) with 14 742 kg (32 500 lbs) of counterweight.

Another key feature of this crane is its outstanding roadability. Power is from a 332-kW (445-hp) engine with 1 966 J (1 450 ft-lbs) of torque. A ZF AS-tronic automated transmission with twelve forward and two reverse speeds takes the power to the wheels. This transmission provides the flexibility of a manual and the controllability of an automatic—all without a clutch pedal. Air-ride suspension is standard. It provides a smooth highway ride, on-tire lifting capacities, and easy job site mobility. For highway travel, each of the counterweight packages is easily moved to optimize weight balance between the front and rear axles.

Highly successful for over 100 years, Link-Belt is a leading crane manufacturer in the North American market with a product line that consists of a full range of rough terrain, all terrain, and telescopic truck and crawler cranes as well as lattice boom crawler and truck cranes.
