Link-Belt Cranes selects Solid Edge computer-aided design software

Lexington, Kentucky (May 4, 2004) – Link-Belt Construction Equipment Co. announced today that it has selected UGS PLM Solution’s powerful Solid Edge 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) software following a detailed evaluation of several CAD systems.

Link-Belt’s decision to replace its existing CAD system was based on market demands for faster design of new telescopic and lattice cranes at lower costs. Link-Belt plans to use Solid Edge’s built-in data management capabilities and open architecture to streamline communication between engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and various Internet databases. Installation of the new CAD system, along with new robust workstations, is expected to take place mid-year.

“Solid Edge will provide 3-D capabilities to integrate the voice of our customers into our emerging product designs,” said Bruce White, vice president of engineering. “With Solid Edge Insight, we also expect to be able to directly link our CAD data to our MRP system so our designers can focus on design functions and reduce clerical duties.”

UGS PLM Solutions, a leader in product data management, collaboration and product design software with 42,000 clients and more than 2.8 million seats of technology operating in the market, is the product lifecycle management (PLM) subsidiary of EDS.

Solid Edge is a registered trademark of UGS PLM Solution Inc. or its subsidiaries in the United States and in other countries. Link-Belt is a registered trademark of the Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company, LLC.
