Link-Belt adds rear steer to market leading hydraulic truck cranes

LAS VEGAS (March 2002) — Link-Belt Construction Equipment Co. announced the addition of rear steering on three of its’ highly successful market leading hydraulic truck cranes. The new series of machines, called Hydraulic Truck Terrain (HTT), will include the HTT-8660 (60-ton), HTT-8670 (70-ton) and the HTT-8670 Long Boom (70-ton), the latter of which will be on exhibit at CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas.

“It is the next logical step for us to add the rear steer feature to hydraulic truck cranes,” said Roy Burger, telescopic crane product manager. “Maneuverability is critical to a crane’s productivity and by adding rear steer, these cranes only get better,” says Burger.

With the rear axles now steerable, the operator has four modes of steering available; independent front, independent rear, all-wheel coordinated, and crab steer. Utilizing the rear steer option, the turning radius is 29.5’ (centerline to centerline).

The HTT product line will include standard 445/65R22.5 single tubeless radial tires and Hub piloted aluminum disc wheels on the front and rear. Tires are interchangeable between front and rear. HTT cranes use single tires on the rear axles, which reduces the total number of tires and your overall costs.

The new HTT line has many common features to the HTC product line including: Air-ride suspension, A-Max and CALC lifting capacities, Detroit Diesel Series 60, 12.7 liter engine, Eaton transmission, operator cab, CabWalk, Ultra-Cab, joystick (dual-axis) or single axis controls, full deck aluminum fenders and pre-paint.
